Rabi Ismail has been recaptured after escaping from prison six years ago

Six years after she escaped from prison after she was sentenced to death for killing her boyfriend, this Hausa actress has been recaptured.

A Hausa actress, Rabi Ismail who escaped from prison after she was sentenced to death for murder in 2005 has been rearrested by security operatives in Kano State.

Punch reports that Ismail who was a popular actress in the Hausa movie industry popularly called Kannywood, was sentenced to death by hanging for the alleged murder of her boyfriend, on January 2005 by a High Court in Kano.

She was then moved to the Hadejia Prison in Jigawa State to await the hangman's noose but on December 16, 2011, she miraculously escaped from the prison with no sign of a breakout, fuelling speculations that she had some inside assistance.

According to the spokesperson for the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Francis Enobore, the actress was recaptured by the Intelligence Unit of the Service with the support of men of the State Security Service.

Ismail made the headlines back then when she was found guilty of culpable homicide after she killed her lover, Auwalu Ibrahim so that she could acquire his property.

In July 2011, the Supreme Court upheld the sentence of the Kano High Court where she had appealed the death sentence.

The court had found her guilty for drugging and drowning Ibrahim in 2002 in a dam in Kano. Ismail who was 39-years-old at that time she escaped from prison, had allegedly lured Ibrahim to a picnic at Tiga Dam where she poisoned him with chocolate and pushed him into the dam in the state.
