The American talk show host has revealed that when his newborn son was undergoing surgery for a heart defect, even atheist prayed for him.
American late night show host, comedian, writer, and producer, James Christian "Jimmy" Kimmel, has revealed that even people who have divergent opinions on issues rallied around him to pray for his sick newborn son.
Kimmel who has been running the late night talk show on ABC since 2003 shared the news of his new son who was born with severe heart defects requiring emergency surgery and how many people prayed for the infant while undergoing the surgery.
After he failed to appear on the show last week, many of his fans thought he had been yanked off the show but he made an appearance on Monday, May 1, 2017, where told the emotional story of how many prayed for his son including atheist.
Kimmel revealed on Monday’s show that his wife had given birth to a son, who, within hours of delivery, was found to have severe heart defects and needed emergency surgery, leading to a torturous series of events which ended on a happy note.
The talk show host shared the experience in an emotional opening monologue on the show by saying:
“We had atheists praying for us, O.K.? And I hate to say it - even that son of Matt Damon sent flowers.”
Kimmel eventually turned toward politics, decrying the idea that anyone should be denied access to health insurance.
“If your baby is going to die, and it doesn’t have to, it shouldn’t matter how much money you make.
I think that’s something that, whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat or something else, we all agree on that, right?
This isn’t football. There are no teams. We are the team, it’s the United States. Don’t let their partisan squabbles divide us on something every decent person wants.”
