The court heard that the accused assaulted the minor by forcibly inserting his manhood into her private part.
A 26-year-old man, Okechukwu Ononwu, charged with defilement, was on Friday granted bail at the sum of N200, 000 by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ononwu, a resident of 9, Odewale St., Alausa, Ikeja, was said to have defiled a 13-year-old girl.
The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 18, 2017, at his residence.
He said that the accused assaulted the minor by forcibly inserting his manhood into her private part.
“The accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of the girl and also threatened to kill her if she dared to tell anyone about the crime he committed.
“The girl’s parents, who reside in the same compound with the accused, reported the case to the police after their daughter narrated her ordeal.
“The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,’’ Imhonwa said.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offence.
Granting bail to him, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, said it was with two sureties in like sum.
Osunsanmi ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, and that one of them must be a blood relation to the accused and a landlord in Lagos State.
She said that the sureties should also provide evidence of tax payment to the state government.
The magistrate directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
The case has been adjourned until July 24.
