The prosecutor said that the accused, with others now at large, stole tyre tubes valued at N1.7 million belonging to his employer, Paul Maduka.

A 21-year-old Sales Representative, Emeka Nweke, who allegedly stole tyre tubes worth N1.7 million from his employer, was on Friday brought before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Nweke, who resides at the Ajegunle area of Apapa, Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused committed the offences between April and May 30, at Shop 21, Aspamda Market, Lagos.

Elibeh said that the accused, with others now at large, stole tyre tubes valued at N1.7 million belonging to his employer, Paul Maduka.

He said that the accused sold the tyre tubes and converted the proceeds to his personal use, instead of remitting the money to Maduka’s account.

Elibeh said that when the complainant decided to take the stock of the goods in his shop, it was discovered that the accused could not account for tyre tubes worth N1.7 million.

The prosecutor said Maduka reported the matter to the police and the accused was arrested.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three-year jail term for stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 1, for mention.
