A five-woman child trafficking syndicate has been smashed after they were caught for stealing an infant and selling him for N600K.

A child trafficking syndicate that has been operating in Imo State for several years has been smashed by the state Police Command following the arrest of the five women who rang the ring.

Punch reports that police officer who aided the gang was also arrested after they stole a three-year-old boy and sold him for N600,000 in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, Chinonye Okere, Joy Ama, Eucheria Amadi, Pauline Uzoamaka and Nnenne Okere, were said to have stolen the child during a funeral and sold him for the amount but was later rescued in Lagos.

The police officer identified as Felix whom the suspects accused of being part of the gang is said to be facing an orderly room trial and would be dismissed and charged to the court if he is found guilty of being part of the child trafficking syndicate.

It was gathered that Okere was the one who stole the child at the funeral ceremony and has confessed to the crime and however implicated Felix, saying he was the one who planned and executed the act with her.
