A 25-year-old domestic servant has been arrested in Zimbabwe for killing his 68-year-old employer for turning down his love proposal.
A 25-year-old domestic worker, Emmanuel Sibanda, has been arrested by the police in Zimbabwe for allegedly killing and burning his 68-year-old female employer, Jerina Chipato, for reportedly rejecting his love advances.
The Chronicle reports that Sibanda was employed by the deceased to work in her household as a domestic servant but he became besotted with her and asked her to be his lover but when Chipato turned down his proposal, Sibanda got angry and murdered her before setting her on fire.
The suspect was arraigned at a Gweru Magistrate court presided by Justice Musaiona Shortgame for the brutal murder of his love interest.
The prosecuting counsel, Daniel Tapfuma, while presenting his case, told the court that on June 21, 2017, Sibanda went into a rage and had a misunderstanding with Chipato after she turned down his love proposal.
“Sibanda went on to attack the now deceased by striking her once on her head with a dry log and she fell on the ground unconscious.
The accused went on to drag the deceased into her kitchen hut and set alight the thatched roof,” Tapfuma said.
Chipato was burnt to death after which Sibanda called for help with claims that she had accidentally been burnt to death in her kitchen hut.
Tapfuma added that suspicious neighbours who responded to the distress calls searched the accused’s bedroom hut for some clues on what could have happened.
“The matter came to light when the accused’s bedroom hut was searched, leading to the recovery of Sibanda’s clothes which were stained with blood. The deceased’s cell phone was also found hidden in his clothes,” the prosecutor continues.
It was learned that Sibanda, after his arrest, confessed to murdering his boss because Ms. Chipato had turned down his love proposal after he professed his love to her.
“She then asked me to go and fetch water at night and we had a misunderstanding and I struck her with a log on the head. I then dragged her body to her kitchen hut and lit it to cover up the offense since it wasn’t my intention to kill her,” Sibanda allegedly confessed during interrogation.
