This is another case of hunger driving an able bodied man to steal owing to the prevailing economic crunch in the country.
A Nigerian man pushed by hunger to steal some yam tubers inside a market in Onitsha, the commercial nerve center of Anambra State was given a bitter taste he would never forget in a hurry after he was caught in the act.
A Facebook post by SpectaScope Nigeria indicates that the man was caught by local residents stealing yam tubers at the Onitsha main market and was publicly disgraced and paraded with one of the tubers tied to his neck while was made to carry the remaining on his head.
It was gathered that the man had sneaked into the market late at night and was about making away with 10 tubers of yam when he was caught by the residents who, after beating him thoroughly, detained him till morning and was then paraded around the town and the market for all to see him.
When he was interrogated, the man reportedly said that his family was starving and he had no option but to steal to feed them since he had been sacked from the company he worked for since last year.
This is not the first time petty thieves are paraded after they were caught stealing food items, especially those driven by hunger occasioned by the biting economic hardship in the country.
