The accused, who reside at different parts of Agege, a Lagos suburb, however, pleaded not guilty and were granted N100,000 bail.
Four men — Ikenna Otia, Fidudusola Watobi, Akeem Lateef and Sulaimon Bankole — who allegedly robbed a man of valuables worth N41, 000 , were on Thursday docked at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused — Otia, 20, computer engineer; Watobi, 19, tiller; Lateef, 19, bricklayer; and Bankole, 19, tricyclist — were arraigned before Magistrate J.A. Adigun, on a three-count charge of assault, conspiracy and stealing.
The accused, who reside at different parts of Agege, a Lagos suburb, however, pleaded not guilty and were granted N100,000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awaze, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Emmanuel Street, Oko-Oba, Agege.
Awaze said the accused, who were armed with cutlasses, axe and other dangerous weapons, robbed the complainant, Mr Rasak Elijah, of valuables worth N41,000.
“They collected his cell phone, watch, necklace and a cash of N5,000, totalling N41,000.”
Awaze said the complainant was returning from work when the accused attacked him with dangerous weapons and disposed him of his belongings.
“The accused attacked the complainant with cutlass, axe and broken bottles, threatening to kill him if he refused to comply."
“They started beating him but for fear of unknown, the complainant surrendered his valuables."
“He, however, raised alarm after they had left and with the help of some members of the Odu’a Peoples Congress (OPC) and some security guards, the accused were apprehended,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 170, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).
The case was adjourned until July 14 for hearing.
