The prosecutor said the complainant got home and discovered that his window had been broken and his apartment burgled.
A Jos Magistrate court on Thursday sentenced Anas Musa, 23-year old student to 14 months in prison for burglary.
Musa was arraigned and charged for burglary and stealing household items belonging to one Acani Garba.
The convict, who resides at Dunala Area of Jos, was arraigned on four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, house breaking and theft.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Karimu Bashiru, had earlier told the court that Acani Garba of Yingi Area of Jos reported the case at Anglo Jos Police Station on May 14.
Bashiru said that Garba told the police that on May 14, while attending church service, he received a call from one his neighbours that two persons were loitering around his house.
The prosecutor said the complainant rushed home and discovered that his window had been broken and his apartment burgled.
Garba told the police that the thieves stole his pair of shoes valued N6, 000, LG television set, two wrappers and three bed sheets.
“They were apprehended and interrogated on their mission, but they offered no meaningful response on their loot,” the prosecutor said, adding that the offence contravened section 348, 355 and 287 of the penal code.
Musa, who attributed the reason for his action to the hardship in the country, pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court for mercy.
The Magistrate, Mrs Helen Danboyi sentenced him to 14 months in prison.
