According to the NDLEA, Eniola trafficked in 500g of the substance.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a 22-year-old unemployed man, Dolapo Eniola, to six months’ imprisonment for trafficking in marijuana.

Eniola had pleaded guilty before Justice Abdulazeez Anka.

He was prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a count charge.

According to the NDLEA, Eniola trafficked in 500g of the substance.

The prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, had said that he was arrested in the act on May 2 at Oko-Afo in Badagry, Lagos.

Aernan submitted that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, 2004.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that following Eniola’s guilty plea, the court reviewed the facts of the case and convicted him.

Aernan had tendered in evidence, a written statement of the convict, a request for scientific aid form, a drug analysis form and the substance.

The court admitted them as exhibits and convicted Eniola accordingly.

Eniola’s counsel, Mr Okeh Ojakovo, had prayed the court for leniency, saying that the convict was a first-time offender.

The court ordered that the sentence should take effect from the date of his arrest.
