An Inspector of Police in Ondo State has committed suicide after shooting a Superintendent to death over money.
It was a double tragedy for the Ondo State Police Command after an Inspector of Police, Abraham Arowogun, attached to the Kajola Police Station, Kajola town, in the Odigbo Local Government Area of state, committed suicide after shooting a superior officer to death.
Punch reports that Inspector Arowogun jumped into a deep well in the station after he had killed the Divisional Crime Office, SP Timothy Aruehi, following an argument over money.
The incident which has sent shock waves through the community and the State Police Command, reportedly occurred on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.
According to a police source, the actions of Inspector Arowogun was mysterious to other police officers in the division as he had never displayed any form of mental instability neither had been involved in any serious altercation with his colleagues.
According to the source, SP Aruehi had received a complaint that Inspector Arowogun had diverted some amount of money for his private use while investigating a case and the DCO invited him to his office and reprimanded him.
“Inspector Arowogun was investigating a case and the DCO discovered that the sum of N150,000 was involved. He further discovered that he [Arowogun] had actually converted the money to his private use.
The DCO called and queried him for the action. In the course of interrogating him, Arowogun stormed out angrily. He returned with a gun which he used to shoot SP Aruehi dead.
After killing the DCO, Arowogun, knowing that what he did was unprofessional and unpardonable in the police force, he just left the scene and jumped into the well at the back of the station,” the police source.
The corpses of the two policemen were said to have been deposited in a mortuary in the Ondo State General Hospital, Ore, while the State Police Public Relations Officer [PPRO], Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident, said that investigation had commenced.
