The sad incidence occurred at Sojulu village via Ibogun in Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Command in Ogun state has reportedly arrested a 33-year old man.
He was arrested for allegedly stealing cassava tubers and killing the farm owner. The incidence occurred at Sojulu village in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun.
It is believed that the suspect whose name is Azeez Kilani allegedly murdered the farm owner as David Adima who hailed from Benue State after he caught the accused stealing on his farm.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, Azeez Kilani murdered the farm owner to cover his tracks.
Kilani has denied the murder charge. According to him, he wrestled with farm owner who was used a cutlass to beat him. In the process of fighting, the cutlass hit the deceased on the neck and died.
“He met me on his farm uprooting his cassava, but I begged him not to report me to Village Head (Baale). He was armed with cutlass and he deployed the cutlass to beat me and I resisted. I dragged the cutlass with him and in the process, the Cutlass hit him on the neck and he fainted. He later died on the farmland. The incident happened on August 13”, Kilani said.
The suspect also disclosed he gave Adima the piece of land upon which he planted the cassava.
