Tears flowed freely at the requiem mass for a Reverend Father who was kidnapped and murdered by a gang led by a police officer in Imo State.

The burial of the Reverend Father Cyriacus Onunkwo who was murdered by kidnappers in Imo State at the start of the month was met with tears and wailing by his community people and Diocesesans who could not believe that he was gone.

Recall that the Reverend gentleman who was the head of the diocese was kidnapped on Friday, September 1, 2017, at Banana Junction, Amaifeke, Orlu, while his corpse was found in Omuma, in the Oru East Local Government Area of the state the following day.

The State Police Command had arrested five suspects, including a dismissed police officer who all confessed to the kidnapping and the murder of the priest.

Governor Rochas Okorocha who spoke at the requiem mass held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Orlu, described the kidnapping and subsequent killing of Rev. Onunkwo by the culprits as the height of wickedness.

Gov. Okorocha who commended the security agencies in the state for working round-the-clock to ensure that the suspects were apprehended without delay, added that the late priest had made a great sacrifice.

Gov. Okorocha said:

“Our brother has died and his death shall never be in vain. Thank God Almighty, the security operatives have captured the killers and they will face the wrath of the law.

I want to commend the security agencies for a job well done. The Lord said, ‘touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm.’

Since these people have touched the anointed and Prophet of God, the wrath of God shall visit them just like the way it visited Cain for killing Abel. Our brother has paid the great sacrifice. We pray that his sacrifice shall help us in eradicating crime in our land.”
