Nigerians are in search for porn online more than Americans.

A cursory use of Google search will show you that Nigerians are searching for more porn than America.

The population of Nigeria is 180 million. The population of America is nearly twice that of Nigeria with 323 million. America is the porn capital of the world but Nigeria is searching for it more.

On Google Trends, the nations that make the top of the list for porn are not countries you would readily associate with porn.

These countries are Zambia, Trinidad & Tobago, Nepal, Ethiopia, Jamaica, South African, Pakistan, Ghana, India, Kenya, Myanmar, Bangladesh, St. Helena, Malaysia and Tanzania. Nigeria comes in at number 16. This list covers a 12-month period.

Why are Nigerians watching more porn? Nigeria masks itself as a conservative society yet the search for online porn has been on the rise. This can be linked with the access Nigerians have to the Internet via mobile data.

Gone are the days when you had to smuggle an adult VHS and VCD into the house and watch at night. Porn is now at your fingertips. All it takes is to type the web address and you get instant access.

This rise in demand has also reflected on the content provider side of things. Within the last few years, Nigerian porn producers have opened up shop.

Sites like Nigerian Adult Forum and Naija Porn Tube started as content aggregators for grainy, leaked Nigerian sex videos. These sites operated for a while till the real content producers came in.

The year 2016 saw the likes of Kingtblakhoc and Free Thinkers- porn brands, come into existence.

In February 2017, Pulse did a profile on Kingtblakhoc who claims to be Nigeria's first porn star. Kingtblakhoc's videos of him having consensual sex with several women have racked up thousands of views on Twitter.

Following Kingtblakhoc, is Free Thinkers, a Nigerian porn production company.

"There's a high rise of upcoming producers in the industry, as well as aspiring models, once it becomes a multi million industry in Nigeria, a lot of people will want to venture into it, as long as the pay keeps rising," says @datkindboy, an executive of Free Thinkers.

He spoke to Pulse in August 2017 about the blooming porn scene in Nigeria.

As the industry grows, the law hasn't caught up with it yet. The Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act 2015 prevents children from pornographic materials. There is, however, nothing about porn being illegal in the constitution. Lagos although has banned the display of pornographic materials in public.

Till the law finally catches up, the porn business and traffic in Nigeria would increase.
