Yewande, a staff of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice, was arraigned for allegedly killing her  husband, Oyelowo, by stabbing him to death.

Ahead of  judgment day, the defence and prosecution teams in the  murder  trial of   a  female lawyer, Yewande Oyediran,  on Tuesday adopted their written addresses at an Oyo State High Court in Ibadan.

Yewande, a staff of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice, was arraigned for allegedly killing her  husband, Oyelowo, by stabbing him to  death.

Appearing before Justice Muktar Abimbola, Mr Leye Adepoju, who led a team of lawyers for the defendant, informed the court that the final written defence address was filed on  June 15.

He said the defence team sought to adopt same as its  final address.

According to Adepoju, the defence team prayed for the dismissal of the murder charge and acquittal of the defendant.

He told the court that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt,  arguing that  the defendant should be discharged.

The state counsel, Mr Sanya Akinyele, also informed the court  that the prosecution team submitted  its final written address on June 30 and  sought to adopt same.

Akinyele prayed the court to uphold the prosecution’s  written address, saying it had proved  the case against the defendant.

He urged the court to convict the defendant as charged having proved the case against her beyond reasonable doubt

Abimbola, who is also the Chief  Judge of the state,  admitted the written addresses of both parties and adjourned the case for judgement.

The chief  judge, who said parties and other stakeholders would be contacted on the date fixed  for judgement,  commended counsel for both parties for  the maturity and cooperation displayed during the trial.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) recalls  that Yewande  was accused of  stabbing  her 38-year-old husband  to death in their  rented apartment at Agodi area of Ibadan  on Feb.  2, 2016.
