A 29-year-old man who was arrested by the Osun State Police Command for allegedly raping an 85-year-old woman to coma says he only raped her twice and the old lady could not have passed out on account of that.
Punch reports that the suspect, Kehinde Ariyo, was arrested after he committed the heinous crime in the Ilesa, a commercial town in the state on Friday, October 27, 2017.
Confirming the arrest of the suspect described as a serial rapist, the State Police Commissioner, CP Fimihan Adeoye, who paraded Ariyo at the state Command Headquarters in Osogbo, said the incident happened at Ogudu area of the town.
CP Adeoye said the suspect sneaked into the house of the old woman at about 11 pm on the night of the incident and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her till she went into a coma.
CP Adeoye added that the woman sustained various degrees of injuries on her body including her private part, and was rushed to a private hospital where she was resuscitated.
It was gathered that Ariyo and the victim lives in the same area and used to go on errands for the old woman in the past and took advantage of his closeness to her to attack her.
“The woman passed out during the rape but came back to life after some hours; the suspect was arrested the next day," CP Adeoye began.
Continuing, he said:
“This is the height of wickedness in our society. The boy injured the woman in the process, but she has been treated.”
However, in a chat with newsmen, Ariyo who admitted to raping the woman, claimed he was drunk after attending a party and needed a place to pass the night.
He said when he could not go to his own home, he pleaded with the woman to allow him to pass the night at her place to which she agreed. He said he slept on a couch in the passage while the woman went into her bedroom but he later went sneaked into the room to sexually assault her while she was sleeping.
“In the night, I went to the room where the woman slept and told her that I needed to tell her something. I told her to open her door and she did. I cannot remember other things.
I just know that it was not more than two rounds and I know it was the work of Satan,” he said.
CP Adeoye has vowed that the suspect would be prosecuted after necessary investigation have been conducted to serve as a deterrent to others.
