Likita Manu and his father, Kwacha, beat his mother to death over witchcraft allegation

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Niger State for allegedly beating his mother to death over witchcraft allegations.

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, Likita Manu for allegedly beating his 100-year-old mother, Inne Kaiyo, to death over an allegation of witchcraft.

Punch Newspaper reports that Manu was arrested alongside his 80-year-old father, Kwacha Manu who also joined in beating the old woman to death.

It was gathered that Manu who just lost his own daughter, accused his mother of being behind the girl's death through witchcraft and allegedly descended on his mother, beating her with a stick.

His father also joined in beating the woman till she gave up the ghost. They were arrested after neighbours lodged a complaint at the police state.

In an interview with journalists at the police station where the suspects are being detained, Kwacha who insisted that his late wife was a witch, claimed that the dead girl was the ninth person that Kaiyo had allegedly killed through her witchcraft.

“After killing my granddaughter, I could not just let her go scot-free, so I used a little dry stick to cane her on the legs while at the same time, asking her why she killed her grandchild and she just died.

The case of my granddaughter is a well-known issue in our area to the leaders and the people and every effort we made to free the young girl all failed.

She died on the way to the hospital at 8 am, last week Thursday.”

When Manu was asked how he got to know that his mother was responsible for his daughter's death, he reportedly said:

“We got to know through my daughter, Magajiya, when she was sick. She cried and begged her grandmother, Inne Kaiyo, to release her soul.
